Women and girls make up 96% of all victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation. In 2018, there were an estimated 4.8 million victims of sex trafficking worldwide. The majority of trafficking victims come from Asia, followed by Africa and Eastern Europe. The top twenty countries with the highest number of victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation are: India, China, Nigeria, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Thailand, the Philippines, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Russia, Ethiopia, Brazil, Myanmar, Ukraine, Tanzania, Uganda, Colombia, Kenya, Venezuela, South Africa, and Cambodia.
